The Dracut community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Firefighter Jacob “Jake” Martin, who passed away unexpectedly on Thursday at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington due to a sudden medical condition. At just 32 years old, Jake’s passing has left his family, colleagues, and friends devastated, as they remember a man whose dedication, kindness, and warm personality touched many lives.
Jake Martin was more than just a firefighter—he was a son, brother, fiancé, and friend whose presence brought joy and reassurance to everyone around him. He was a 2011 graduate of Greater Lowell Technical High School and proudly carried on his family’s tradition of service as a second-generation firefighter. His father, retired Dracut Fire Lieutenant Paul Martin, and his uncle, retired Firefighter Marc Martin, both served before him, inspiring Jake to follow in their footsteps.
After beginning his career with Pridestar Trinity EMS in Lowell, Jake went on to fulfill his dream of firefighting. He graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in February 2023 and immediately joined the Dracut Fire Department. Assigned to Engine 2 at the Jones Avenue Fire Station, Jake quickly earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Known for his quiet dedication and eagerness to learn, he embodied the values of courage, service, and humility.
Chief Cunha of the Dracut Fire Department described him as “a true pleasure to be around—laid back, easygoing, and always ready with a smile.” Beyond his work, Jake enjoyed simple joys, like playing his guitar at the station, which brought laughter and connection to those around him. He also took pride in volunteering with the District 6 Forestry Hand Crew, further demonstrating his commitment to protecting and serving his community.
Jake’s legacy will be remembered not only through his service but also through the love he shared with his family. He is survived by his fiancée, Aislinn Kearns; his parents, Paul and Sheila Martin; his brother, Zach; his sister, Angela; and many extended family members who loved him dearly.
His sudden passing is a tremendous loss for the Dracut Fire Department and the community he served with pride. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon, as family, friends, and colleagues prepare to honor the life and service of Firefighter Jake Martin—a beloved son, fiancé, brother, and public servant whose memory will forever live on.
